We were delighted to provide local charity, The Neuro Therapy Centre, with a grant of £4,596.60 to provide support to those living with long-term, degenerative neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s and MS, through physiotherapy.
The “life-changing” Centre, based on the outskirts of Chester, encourages their community to live their best neuro life through a preventative approach and also supports carers, who often struggle to prioritise their own wellbeing. The holistic person-centred support focuses on positivity by reinforcing what individuals can do.
Since opening its doors in 1985, the Centre has experienced high demand as it offers core services which are not as readily available through the NHS, including physiotherapy, a fully accessible gym and fitness sessions, counselling and other complementary therapies such as peer support. This reduces the burden on NHS and social care services as people remain healthy and independent for longer.
Our funding contributed towards the salary of an experienced Neurological Physiotherapist who delivered regular, consistent and tailored physiotherapy whilst supporting self-management. This in incredibly beneficial as it improves fitness and strength which helps slow deterioration of their condition and delay the need for mobility aids and also by maintaining independence and building self-confidence, it increases wellbeing.
One beneficiary said “I’ve had one-to-one physio and I go to the Pilates sessions. Before I started this, I couldn’t stand or walk for more than a few seconds, which badly affected my day-to-day living. Now, I’m more mobile and quite independent and only need to use pain relief during a flare up.”
Each month, the Centre offers one-to-one physiotherapy to over 100 people living with long term neurological conditions and we were pleased to be able to support this often overlooked community.
