We’re delighted to be supporting Disability Positive with Tarporley Social Circle, a group for adults with lived experience of disability and long‑term health conditions.
Disability Positive provides services, opportunities and a voice to people with lived experience of disability and long-term health conditions, as well as their families, in Cheshire and across the North West. Each year, they support more than 10,000 people to live more independently and confidently.
Our £2,000 grant will go towards venue costs, securing a safe and accessible space for the group for a full year. This matters because disabled people often face significant barriers to taking part in social activities — from limited transport options to the need for appropriate support. Tarporley Social Circle removes many of these barriers by offering a space where members can attend without a carer or parent, helping them build independence and confidence on their own terms.
The group meets regularly, with activities chosen and led by members. Sessions include yoga, cookery, canoeing and social nights out — all designed to help people connect, grow and enjoy time with others in their community. A member tells us the about the impact the group has made:
“I have made good friends. Staff say I’m more confident than I used to be and that’s because I feel safe and I’m made to feel welcome. I’m with ‘people like me’ where I can just be me.”
We can’t wait to hear more about the positive difference this funding will make for everyone who participates in Tarporley Social Circle.
