Blacon Beacon supports people in the local community who are struggling to access life’s necessities and maintain a healthy, stable living environment. Many of the challenges faced by their service users are complex and deeply rooted, from generational disadvantage and limited educational opportunities to digital exclusion, poor physical or mental health and the overwhelming impact of food poverty.
To help overcome these barriers, Blacon Beacon provides practical support focused on accessing food, digital inclusion and reducing social isolation. Through strong partnerships with a wide range of community services, they offer a Foodbank, cooking education and free access to computers with internet access and printing, with a digital mentor available to offer training and advice.
Our £12,502 grant to Blacon Beacon will contribute towards:
Emergency support and advice – Covering Foodbank access, digital support and signposting to external services such as Citizens Advice, Sure Start, and Blacon PCSOs, ensuring residents can reach the right help at the right time.
Meals and community support – Including healthy holiday meals for up to 100 people per session and weekly warm up community lunches that offer a warm space, a hot meal and friendly conversation, helping to combat both the cold and social isolation.
Recipe bags – Our grant enabled Blacon Beacon to successfully apply for grants for their recipe bags. Distributed to approximately 180 residents each month at no cost, the recipe bags provide both the ingredients and step-by-step instructions needed to help households build essential skills and confidence in cooking nutritious, budget-friendly meals.
Blacon Beacon’s support is open to everyone, regardless of age or circumstance — currently their youngest service user is a newborn and their eldest is in her late eighties.
We are committed to supporting organisations making a meaningful difference in Chester for those who need it most. This grant enables Blacon Beacon to extend their reach, strengthen their services and empower the individuals and families who rely on them.
