Leading healthier, happier lives in care homes

We were pleased to provide funding to Healthbox CIC to support older people living in care homes.

Healthbox CIC helps people of all ages live healthier and happier lives through a range of services, including social prescribing in GP practices, wellbeing support in care homes, and mental health sessions in schools.

Our £1,797 grant will fund a six-month programme of weekly mind and body movement sessions at Florence Grogan Care Home in Blacon.

Up to 20 residents will take part in engaging 90 minute sessions that combine physical activity with creative and sensory exploration that stimulates both physical health and curiosity.  The movement sessions are paired with music, games and rhythmic exercises to support strength, balance and coordination.

The grant will cover a trained facilitator, specialist equipment such as resistance bands and light weights, and printed guides to further support residents and staff. The equipment will remain in the home so trained staff will be able to lead simple activities when the funding ends, ensuring movement becomes part of the residents’ daily routine.

Structured movement opportunities are rarely available in care homes, meaning the residents often experience poor mobility, increased falls and low mood due to low activity levels. By combining movement with meaningful themes, music and social interaction, this programme will support both mind and body wellbeing.

This grant is expected to have a significant impact on residents’ wellbeing and physical health, creating a more enriched life in an often overlooked community.
