Citizens Advice

We recently awarded Citizens Advice Cheshire West a grant to help them extend their support to those who need free confidential, accessible and independent advice, whatever their problem.

The grant of £2,234 has enabled the charity to set up a dedicated room that is separate from the main office and drop-in centre. Citizens Advice have seen an increasing demand for telephone-based services as it is flexible and confidential, especially for those facing financial, legal or personal difficulties. 42% of their current client interactions are over the phone and they expect this to grow. Phone services are particularly important to vulnerable individuals as they are more accessible with digital barriers and travel costs removed.

The quiet, private space will allow staff to assist clients more effectively and extend the phone lines hours which will make it more accessible to marginalised clients. This will be particularly crucial in the cold winter months when the demand for advice increases due to issues like fuel poverty.

The funding will mean a fully functional room can be established to enable both voluntary and paid advisers to provide more efficient telephone support. The equipment required will also be purchased with this grant, including desks, chairs, headsets, computers and noise reduction desk dividers.

We were delighted to support the expansion of the Cheshire West branch’s phone line as it aligns with our goals to support vulnerable, disadvantaged individuals, reduce social exclusion and create sustainable change.
