Last year, we awarded Citizens Advice Cheshire West a grant to help them extend their support to those who need free confidential, accessible and independent advice, whatever their problem.
The grant of £2,234 enabled the charity to set up a dedicated private room, separate from the main office and drop-in centre, to be able to provide telephone-based services. Citizens Advice has experienced a growing demand for telephone-based services, driven by their flexibility, confidentiality, and the absence of travel costs. Currently, 42% of client interactions take place over the phone, as this is expected to grow.
The grant enabled the charity to buy equipment to answer calls on issues such as tax credits, housing, food banks and employment. Paid staff and volunteers could assist clients more effectively meaning they took 1,890 calls, leading to 1,550 new client cases being opened. As a result, the client group achieved a total income gain of £92,490.
We were delighted to support the expansion of the Cheshire West branch’s phone line as it aligns with our goals to support vulnerable, disadvantaged individuals, reduce social exclusion and create real sustainable change in our community.
